Board President Lonnie Rowell delivered a keynote address at the 2019 international conference co-sponsored by CARN (Collaborative Action Research Network) and ALARA (Action Learning, Action Research Association). The conference took place in Split, Croatia from October 17-19. Dr. Rowell addressed the role of action research in relation to the current global crisis. He called on the global action research community to respond constructively to the need for knowledge democratization in relation to the crisis and to be active in the development of a progressive agenda for social change that addresses the varied components of the crisis including climate change, attacks on democracy, decolonizing knowledge production and enacting knowledge democracy for strengthening civic literacy, and countering the rise of authoritarianism around the globe.
