Nihara is an In-Service Advisor on Primary Education in Sri Lanka. Schools in Sri Lanka are conducted in the language medium of Sinhala and Tamil. Nihara is guiding Tamil medium teachers in primary schools in the Denuwara Zonal Education office area, Kandy District to enhance the quality of primary classrooms. She has contributed as a resource person on writing Teacher Guides. She also has worked with various NGOs such as Save the Children, Room to Read and Gamini Dissanayake Foundation. She has gained first hand experiences in India (with preschools), Japan (on primary science), UK (on Primary Mathematics) and South Korea (on IT). Based on her experiences she has implemented a number of innovative projects in schools. This SPF article is based on one such project.
