In her long career in higher education Ruth’s work in the health sector has ranged from the national level, e.g., the NHS Management Executive and the Welsh Assembly Government, to local community health development projects. Her work in mental health during the 1990s made an early contribution to promoting the voices of service users. Ruth has maintained an interest in analytic psychology and her principal research interest is now in Social Dreaming as a potential tool for PAR. As Lead Coordinator of the international Collaborative Action Research Network (CARN) (2010-2021) she enhanced CARN’s digital presence and its partnerships with action research networks globally. Currently she is working with global PAR colleagues on Knowledge Democracy, continues her scholarship and practice in Social Dreaming and writes about international PAR networks. In parallel with her professional career Ruth has been a lifelong anti-nuclear campaigner and has been at the forefont of major national campaigns, successfully opposing a deep disposal project for nuclear waste (2010-2013) and currently opposing proposals for a new coal mine. Ruth received the Friends of the Earth, England Wales & Northern Ireland 2017 Earthmover Award for campaigning on the safe stewardship of nuclear waste and the promotion of renewable energy systems.
