I have been an educator for eight years working in both government and private schools. I have always had a keen interest in practitioner research and the knowledge that can be gained from this research.
Currently, I am pursuing my master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Management. This has further piqued my interest in doing practitioner research. As part of the Senior Leadership Team at my school, I believe that doing research and showing my colleagues that continuous learning and researching can help grow and develop education for the better. The first research project that I had done was to find if students have comprehension skills as second language learners, or do they simply memorize words and recognize these words in the text that they read. The results showed that students could read, however majority of the lower achieving students did not comprehend what they were reading at all. This was an interesting research study and the first of many.
Having been an English and Science teacher, provided me with the opportunities to try new strategies and approaches to teaching and find ways to engage students in their own learning, be independent and take ownership of their learning and work that they produce.
