I have been teaching computer-related courses since 2000. I have taught college students as well as middle and high school students and have industry hands-on experience and certifications (MCSE, MCSD, Cisco, A+, etc.). A very intriguing phenomenon that I observed was that students who learn Web design would sail through the course and enjoy a great sense of accomplishment until becoming discouraged by the introduction of JavaScript. JavaScript can provide so much more functionality to a Web page such as an interactive greeting or a ticking clock but it imposes a sudden surge of cognitive load to the Web students who have not learned programming. Making this transition smooth for Web students has been my pursuit.
