I am currently teaching 3rd grade math and 4th grade English language arts at Loma Elementary. I decided to pursue teaching after I spent time volunteering in schools in San Diego and taking education courses at UCSD. Through that experience, I learned how powerful and transformative schools could be in uplifting communities and creating a more equitable society. I have taught abused and neglected children living in a residential facility, teenage boys in juvenile hall, independent study for credit deficient middle and high schoolers, and academic and behavior intervention in under-resourced schools in San Diego and Los Angeles. I supported the development of local teachers in Ethiopia as a Peace Corps English Teacher Trainer, and served on Peace Corps' leadership team to develop and train incoming Peace Corp Volunteers to serve as English teachers.
